NZSD GRADUATION SEASON: HERE & NOW

SOLD OUT SEASON

‘Phrase: No Show Without Punch. A show or endeavour cannot proceed without its star or main purpose.’

Holly was commissioned by the NZ School of Dance to create a new work on the 2nd/3rd year contemporary students as a part of their 2020 graduation season Here & Now.

No Show Without Punch was created shortly following the 2020 lockdown period in NZ due to the global pandemic. This performance was the first of the year for the students, so made for an extremely special show in which Holly hoped to capture the beauty in being able to dance together again.

The situation of the world at the time, heavily influenced the spirit behind the work and Holly was invested in making this piece a celebration of togetherness and to the core, focusing on dance in its purist form. The piece featured a musical track from the Canadian band The East Pointers which resembled a gutsy Irish jig- a piece of music that is hard not to tap your foot to.

For Holly, this commission was particularly special as it was the first time she returned to the NZSD as a choreographer
